Our School Day

TIMES OF OPENING

Playground open:  8:30am
Doors open:     8:50am (Children are met on the playground by their teachers and taken in for registration)
Morning Session:     9.00 am - 12.00 pm
Afternoon Session:  1.15 pm - 3.35 pm

The time spent on teaching including Religious Education, but excluding breaks and lunch, each week is 27 ½ hours. The length of the whole school week, including breaks and lunch, is 33 ¾ hours

Children should arrive before the opening of the school and make their way straight on to either the Lower or Upper School playgrounds.  They may use the path from Mill Lane leading to the Lower School entrance, or the path (from the Cinder Path) alongside the perimeter of the playing fields adjacent to Our Lady of Pity Primary School. The school gates are open from 8:30am, and a member of staff is on each playground to supervise the children. At 8.50am, the school doors are opened and the children go to their classrooms, where a ‘starter’ activity will be prepared for them. Registration takes place at 9.00am. So as to avoid any missed learning opportunity, all children should be in school for 8:50am.

It is important for parents to understand that, although staff are in school from 7.00am, there is no direct supervision until 8.30am and therefore, until this point, children are still the responsibility of their parents.

Parents who accompany their children to school should leave them at the gate and not enter the playground at morning drop off times. We also encourage parents to not wait during this time as it often causes congestion around the school gates and creates a hazard for others travelling into school. Parents waiting to collect children at the end of the afternoon session are welcome and encouraged to enter the school playground to safely collect their child or children.
