Welcome to Our School!

It is with great pleasure I welcome you to Greasby Junior School (GJS). We are very proud of our school, one that is steeped in history and with a close community.

GJS is a popular, two-form entry junior school, that is both happy and welcoming to all. We promote and value a safe and stimulating learning environment where our children can thrive so as to reach their potential; where each person is actively encouraged to show thought and interest in the welfare of others through living our core values of ‘Care, Courtesy and Consideration’. We are committed to supporting the social and emotional growth of all the children in our care, and by working in partnership with the parents and families within our school community.

As a school, we promote high standards of achievement and attainment for all our pupils. This is accomplished through the dedication of our hard-working staff, who provide the children with exciting, creative and meaningful learning experiences, which build their enthusiasm for learning and help them to grow and develop positively in a variety of ways.

We hope that you will find this website informative and helpful in providing you with a real feel for our happy school. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to make contact via the school office. We hope you enjoy finding out more about us!

Sports Day
24/05/2022 11:30 AM

Dear Parents & Carers,

As you are aware, Sports Day is on Tuesday 24th May at 12:30pm. After the last couple of years with little to no opportunities for parents and carers to attend events such as these, we are so looking forward to seeing you there.

If the weather is inclement, a decision will be made at 10.30am and, if the event has to be cancelled, parents will be informed via email and on the school website.

On the day, children are asked to come to school in their PE kits. This includes their House coloured t-shirt, shorts and trainers; however, they may wear their PE tracksuit over their kit. They will need to remember a water bottle and, if the weather is bright, should put sun-cream on before school. We would also recommend a cap or hat to keep the off their heads as they will be outside for 2 hours or more.

Sports Day takes place on the school field. This is accessible for parents and carers by the side gate in the overflow part of the car park via the main gate on Mill Lane.

Please follow these rules so that the afternoon runs as smoothly as possible:

  • No dogs should be brought onto the premises.
  • Every child must stay with their year group until the event is finished. No child is to go home until the end.
  • There will be no seating as the children move around the field. Feel free to bring your own chair if you wish.
  • Apart from the sprints on the straight track, all parents should stay around the boundary of the activities. This will allow the teaching staff to manage the children more easily.

To ensure the safety of the children, the following procedure will take place at the end of the day:

  • When Sports Day finishes, all children will go back into school to their classes.
  • Parents should make their way to either the Year 3/4 playground or the Year 5/6 playground (parents who have children in lower and upper school should make their way to the Year 3/4 playground and teachers will tell the eldest sibling to meet their parents there).
  • Teachers will dismiss the children from class at home time, reminding children to meet their parents on the playground. Children whose parents are not able to attend Sports Day will make their way home as normal.

Jubilee Celebrations 22 May 2022 (by Emma Johnson (emma.johnson))
26/05/2022 7:00 AM

On Friday 27th May, Greasby Junior School will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. As this is the last day of the half term, it is our usual non-uniform day with a donation of £1. However, we invite all of the pupils to come to school dressed in the colours of the Union Jack Flag: red, white and blue.

On this day, the pupils will participate in a range of activities to understand the importance of this milestone event for the Queen and country. In addition, each year group will also be focusing on a particular decade of Queen Elizabeth’s reign so far. They will be learning all about what life was like during that time: the key events, music, fashions and inventions.

At lunch time, we are holding a GJS picnic on the field so we are able to celebrate as a whole school. Each child wishing to take part will have their own paper bag to decorate for the day, and our cooks will be preparing the picnic. This will include:

  • Sandwich batch (cheese, ham, tuna or vegan)
  • Bag of crisps
  • Fruit
  • Cake
  • Carton of juice (Apple or Orange) – water will also be available.

The price of this lunch is £2.20 and is to be paid in your child’s Arbor account. Please complete this brief form to indicate that your child will or will not be having a school picnic lunch so we are able to order and make the correct amount of food. If your child chooses to bring a packed lunch on the day, they will still be joining everyone on the field so we can eat, celebrate and play.
