Homework & Home Learning

At Greasby Junior School, we believe that homework is an important part of every child’s learning journey. It helps children to practise and reinforce skills learned in class, develop good study habits, and share their learning with parents and carers at home.

Each week, children are expected to:

Read at least three times and record this in their Accelerated Reader (AR) journal.
Practise Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at least ten times in Studio mode (or an adapted version where appropriate).
Practise their weekly spellings using a range of multi-sensory strategies, with evidence of practice at least three times.

In Year 6, children are also given additional English and Maths homework. This is to support their preparation for secondary school and to build confidence and independence ahead of the Key Stage 2 SATs. These extra tasks give pupils the opportunity to consolidate key skills and deepen their understanding in the core subjects, ensuring they are well-prepared for the next stage of their education.

Homework is set on a Friday, with the information shared via Class Dojo, and should be returned by Wednesday. Homework is checked weekly by staff.

To support children who may struggle to complete tasks at home, we run a Homework Club:

Monday & Tuesday: available for children who cannot complete homework at home.
Wednesday & Thursday: for children who have not completed homework on time.

We aim to work in partnership with families to establish positive learning routines, while also being flexible and supportive where needed.
